<hi style=afpcap>The B-57 was ordered as a medium range tactical bomber as well as a reconnaissance platform with cameras mounted in a housing aft of the bomb bay. Apart from possessing the ability to carry 5,200 lb of bombs in a rotary bomb bay, the B-57 could also deliver a further 4,000 lb of bombs suspended from underwing hardpoints. The B-57 was effective against the Vietcong during the Vietnam War, although the type suffered some spectacular ground losses during satchel bomb attacks. Having been replaced by more capable fighter bombers, the B-57s continued to serve in a variety of supporting roles including target-tug, and to evaluate defence suppression measurers. Some B-57s were operated in a highly attractive gloss black colour scheme which was unique for a fighter bomber..</hi>
